"They say that dogs are mans best friend, you know what I say, they're mans worst enemy"
— Old hunter, Floyd

Rabid Dogs where once simple domesticated dogs of Yharnam, that was till all the proper hunting dogs where killed off during the hunts, and the need for hunting dogs went up. So to keep the flow of hunting dogs up with the demand, the people of Yharnam sided to make their domesticated dogs interbreed, from this series of inbreeding the first Rabid Dog was born.

Rabid Dogs are unkempt and sickly things, they normally go patrolling with huntsmen (or in the chalice dungeons they patrol with the Gravediggers), they also sometimes wander in small packs.

Rabid Dogs have tendency to circle around their target before attacking, this help disorientate their prey. They're normally unrelenting in their attacks never giving their prey space to breath, this is one of the few cases where Serrated weapons won't do any good but fire paper is still effective on them. Also bullets can knock these dogs back quite a distance this will allow you to catch a breath and tend to ones own wounds.

Hunting dogs[]

Hunting dogs are Rabid Dogs but with a series of metal spikes planted into it, the reason for why these dogs have such horrid spikes is well somewhat unknown. Some say that a few huntsmen wanted to enhance the deadliness of their hunting dogs, so they made some "forceful" enhancements to their dogs.

Hunting dogs fight somewhat differently to their Rabid counter part, for one they fight much more savagely, being even more unrelenting and causing much more dangerous wounds. The only thing that the Hunting dog carry on from its past of being a Rabid dog, is it's tendency to circle around their target before attacking. Apart from this they fight much differently, they like to zigzag towards their prey this help them to doge incoming projectiles, they also will attempt to slash at their prey with their bladed front paws. As with the rabid dogs make use of fire paper and bullets when dealing with these beasts.
