I think that we will play as a Samurai and our Daimyo (Regional Lord) will hire us as an assassin and we will have too cross treachurous areas and face down with the targeted Daimyo by fighting his Samurai bodyguards and eventually killing the Daimyo. After that, we will find that our Dimyo was killed and our name (whatever that may be) has disrespected. As a Samurai, if your name was disrespected, you would naturally go after the one who dishonored you and enact honorable justice apon him, we will pursue him and fight him to the death.
Raiders from wherever would also control areas on the coast of the Pacific and we could have the option to liberate them to unlock NPC's for quests and gains.
Regarding the bloody cables on the bone in the trailer; could this be a strange weapon in testing, or perhaps a character. This skeleton could be Gashadokuro, the giant skeleton myth who bites off heads and drinks the blood. He could have cables on his body so he can reel in his prey to be devoured.
